WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) –The Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin is officially without a CEO after the retirement of Jean Tehan on Monday.
Tehan was the first full-time employee hired by the foundation in the late 1980s, one year after the foundation started. In a video posted to YouTube commemorating her retirement, she reflected on the growth of the foundation.
“Our first 990 was under $10,000. We currently have approximately $69 million. To date we have given out over $91 million,” she said.
The Community Foundation holds over 430 different funds. Dollars funneled through the foundation have been used for various projects in Wausau and the surrounding areas.
Some of the projects that have been carried across the finish line thanks to money from the Community Foundation include the 400 Block, Wausau Curling Center, the grandstand at Marathon Park, improvements to the Grand Theater, The Boys and Girls Club facilities, and the Medical College of Wisconsin.
“It’s been a very rich, robust ride for over 32 years,” she added.

The staff of the foundation held a drive-through reception for their longtime friend and colleague in the parking lot of the Dudley Tower to maintain social distancing during the COVID-19 outbreak. Tehan says she plans to stay in the Wausau area for now, and may eventually find a new way to get involved in the community.
The foundation began taking applications for its new CEO back in July.
