WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The absentee ballot drop-box outside of Wausau City Hall has been used, incorrectly, by some out-of-town voters.
For a ballot to count, it must be returned to the municipality where the voter is registered.
Wausau City Clerk Leslie Kramer says a “handful” of absentee ballots from other districts have been deposited in the Wausau drop-box. She did not say how many.
Kramer told WAOW-TV, “In order for your ballot to be counted you have to return it to your correct municipality,” Kremer stated. “So if you return it to the wrong one obviously it slows down the process and you risk your ballot not being in by election day.”
“It’s early enough, so it’s not a huge problem and we can get it to the correct clerk in time,” Kremer added. “But it’s always better to just do it right the first time,” she said.
A record number of Wisconsin voters are expected to vote absentee this year.
