RIB MOUNTAIN, WI (WSAU) — Another Central Wisconsin municipality is looking at their contract with the Convention and Visitors Bureau this month.
The Town of Rib Mountain Tourism Commission will be holding a closed session discussion Tuesday evening about their contribution to the Wausau/Central Wisconsin Convention and Visitors Bureau. Town Administrator Gayleen Rhoden says the review of the contract happens every year as the Town has a year-to-year contract with the CVB.
“Our contract actually is a year-to-year contract with the Visitors Bureau. We are required to give them notice of what, if anything by October 1st. So we’re going to review some stuff in closed session.”
Rhoden says the contract has been year-to-year since the initial contract of three years ended at the end of 2018. The Commission has reviewed the contract every year since then in either August or September to make a decision by the October 1st deadline.
Several other local municipalities including the Village of Rothschild and the City of Wausau have terminated their contracts with the Convention and Visitors Bureau. Those terminations stem from an incident in July where CVB Executive Director Richard Barrett was accused of improperly collecting room tax money from the online travel site Expedia.
