MOSINEE, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Central Wisconsin Airport Director Brian Grefe says air traffic at the Mosinee facility was down by nearly half this year thanks in large part to the ongoing pandemic
“Nationally, Thanksgiving is a very busy travel weekend, here at Central Wisconsin Airport, because we’ve got a large percentage of business travel, “Grefe told WAOW TV. “We actually see a little bit of a decrease on a typical Thanksgiving weekend, now enter a COVID environment and we are seeing significantly less.”
Grefe says air traffic at the facility has been down sharply this year. This spring at the height of the pandemic passenger count fell by nearly 90%, and many flights were canceled altogether following the national trends. At one point the facility was serving as a parking garage for some Delta planes that were temporarily out of commission due to the reduced number of flights nationwide.
Despite national pleas from health officials to limit Thanksgiving travel this year, millions still took to the road and airways to celebrate.
