MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A new initiative to highlight safe dining practices has begun in Wisconsin.
This week the Wisconsin Restaurant Association officially launched their “Ready to Serve Safely” campaign. The campaign is to highlight those restaurants that are following state and federal guidelines along with adhering to public health orders.
Association President and CEO Kristine Hillmer explains that restaurants involved in the campaign must meet a certain set of detailed criteria to participate. “There are FDA, CDC, and the EPA as well as restaurant-specific standards that they are promising to follow. And in addition to that, they’re also following Wisconsin and local health department orders. As well as providing employee training because it’s important that staff knows what they have to do in order to follow these rules.”
The public awareness campaign began this month as the Restaurant Association received grant funds from the Wisconsin Department of Tourism. Hillmer also mentions that restaurants will need more help with outdoor dining less available in the winter.
“We know that the cold weather is coming and so outside dining isn’t going to be as possible as it was this summer. We know that the holidays are coming up, which is a critical time for restaurants. And then even after the holidays in January, it’s still going to be important to support restaurants.”
At this time about 125 restaurants across the state have joined the “Ready to Serve Safely” campaign. A full list of participating restaurants and guidelines can be found over at safediningwisconsin.com.
