MADISON, WI (METRO) – The hope is to get the first doses of the coronavirus vaccine in Wisconsin out the door by the middle of the month.
The state hopes to start offering vaccines to those most at risk in a matter of weeks.
Wisconsin and the rest of the country are waiting for the FDA to approve the vaccine for use. DHS says Wisconsin should see about 50-thousand doses to begin with.
And the vaccine could become something of political item.
A provision of the COVID-19 package from Assembly Republicans includes finance committee oversight of the state’s vaccination effort.
The Assembly Republican plan would give the JFC veto power over the state’s vaccine distribution plan, and would bar employers from requiring employees to get vaccinated.
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos wants that control. But Assembly Minority Leader Gordon Hintz derides the idea of the Republican controlled Joint Finance Committee being involved, calling it absurd and reckless.
