Smithfield Foods is reaching out a helping hand to health officials by offering assistance in administering COVID-19 vaccines and storing them in ultra-cold freezers. Ultra-cold is an understatement, Pfizer’s vaccine has to be stored at -94F and Moderna’s can be stored at normal refrigerator temperatures anywhere from 36F to 46F. Smithfield plans on working with authorities to help where they can because the company has several freezers that are capable of storing the vaccines. They also expect to have the ability to issue the vaccine to ag and food workers in a timely manner.
