WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Milwaukee teen will avoid jail time after a plea hearing for multiple felony charges.
Tuesday afternoon 17-year-old Dawson Armstrong was in Marathon County Circut Court for a scheduled final pre-trial conference. At the beginning of the conference, the two parties in the case notified the court of reaching a plea agreement. Armstrong changed his plea from not guilty to guilty for 5 of his 7 charges. The plea change also dismissed two charges of felony bail jumping.
Armstrong was then sentenced by Judge Suzanne O’Neill to complete 50 hours of community service, pay restitution to the victim, write a letter to the victim, and to maintain absolute sobriety. O’Neill also withheld a sentence of 3 years probation for the 5 charges that would go into effect if Armstrong violated any of his sentencing conditions.
Armstrong was found guilty of stealing a car in Rib Mountain and leading deputies on a high-speed chase through Marathon and Portage Counties. The chase ended in Stevens Point after crashing into a mailbox and fire hydrant. Armstrong then tried to flee on foot with his two passengers before being taken into custody. He is still facing a charge of operator fleeing or eluding an officer for bodily harm or property damage in Portage County.
