MADISON, WI (WSAU) — As the full economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic becomes clearer, officials at UW Madison are announcing a new round of furloughs and salary reductions for top employees.
According to Chancellor Rebecca Blank, the University is facing a budget shortfall of nearly $320 million through June of 2021. That’s leading to another round of furloughs that will impact nearly every employee.
Blank and other top leaders including vice-Chancellors will also take a 15% pay cut over six months. All Deans will take a voluntary 10% pay cut during that same time.
For some, this will be the second furlough they have taken this year after the first round earlier this spring.
Despite the news, the University is still planning to give employees a 2 percent raise for the 2019-’21 pay plan. Earlier this week University officials that even with those raises there is still a significant pay gap between their salary scale and others at similar Universities, including those in the Big Ten Conference.
