WAUKESHA, WI (WSAU) — A Wisconsin man who stabbed four family members and a pet because he thought he needed to save them from the Coronavirus will spend the rest of his life committed to a mental health institution.
On Monday a Waukesha County judge found 36-year-old Adam Roth not guilty because of mental disease or defect for killing his wife Dominique, 34, and her sister, Deidre Popanda, 26, with a kitchen knife. According to Roth, he was afraid that the Coronavirus was “coming” for his family and he had to save them.
Two others were injured in the incident when they stepped in to try to stop Adam. The family’s dog also died in the attack.
Attornies for Roth agreed to the sentence, saying the case was about someone who is suffering in a way “none of us can understand.” Prosecutors in the case had argued that if Roth were released, he would pose a clear risk to either himself or the public.
