GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) The Packers did just enough to get their 11th win of the season. The offense managed only 3 points in the second half, and held off the Carolina Panthers, 24-16.
The game started quite differenly. The Packers scored touchdowns on their first three possessions, and built a 21-3 lead at halftime. But the Panthers dominated the third quarter and made it a one-score game.
The Packers sealed the win on a 51-year field goal by Mason Crosby with 3:39 left. The Panthers still possessed the ball once more, trailing by 8 with 55-seconds remaining. They were stopped on 4th and 13 to bring the game to an end.
“That was a stinker on offense,” Aaron Rodgers said of the second half. He was 20-of-29 for 143 yards passing. Rodgers threw for one touchdown and ran for another. His passer rating was 91.6.
The Packers improved to 11-6 for the season, and continue to hold the number-1 seed in the playoffs. If the season ended today, the Packers would be assured home games at Lambeau Field and would get the only first-round bye in the NFC.
The Packers have two regular-season games remaining: next Sunday night against Tennessee, and a week-17 tilt in Chicago against the Bears.
