MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Seven-day averages of coronavirus metrics in Wisconsin continue to drop this week following rises over the past two weeks.
The state Department of Health Services reported 2,134 new cases on Wednesday, or 28.7% of the 7,427 total tests done. There were 37 more deaths.
Seven-day averages fell to 2,646 new cases, 28.1% test positivity and 30 deaths.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 513,270 confirmed infections, more than 2.4 million negative tests and 5,248 deaths. DHS lists 480,112 people as having recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
As of midday Wednesday, 176,165 doses of vaccine had been administered.
Overall hospitalizations increased on Wednesday. The Wisconsin Hospital Association reported treating 1,025 COVID-19 patients, up 37 from Tuesday but down 103 from a week earlier. Of those, 224 were in intensive care, one fewer than on Tuesday and 19 fewer than a week earlier.
