WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Wausa Police have arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with the death of a three-month-old child.
Hospital staff said the boy was suffering from “unexplained life-threatening brain injuries” after being dropped off by his parents on January 9th. They notified the police, who opened an investigation.
Due to the nature of the child’s injuries, the staff at Aspirus Wausau immediately rush the baby to Marshfield Children’s. He died on January 14th.
The next day police arrested Ronnie Lofton Jr. without incident at his Wausau home. He now faces a potential charge of First-Degree Reckless Homicide.
An autopsy on the child will be conducted on Tuesday. Lofton will also have a probable cause hearing in Marathon County court that day.
No further information in the case has been released.
