Maybe it’s oxygen deprivation from excessive mask-wearing, deep-seated guilt for the harmful effects of virtual learning on schoolchildren or just good old-fashioned leftist rage, but a contingent of the Wausau School Board is unhinged. Is it Board President Tricia Zunker’s aggressive use of (or threats to use) her ominous gavel or impetuously end a meeting because she doesn’t agree with the public comments from citizens / parents / taxpayers who attend school board meetings? Is it the pressure to put the children first like the well-informed and rational school boards in neighboring school districts have done months ago?
Perhaps it’s the realization that these unprofessional – and in their own words – ‘uninformed’ members are being called out for their inaction. Children throughout the district continue to suffer because of these unconscionable decisions. It’s become obvious to this community that some on the Wausau School Board do not represent the children of this district but rather the teacher’s union, which has been on life support in Wisconsin for quite some time.
It was apparent at a recent school board meeting that these members are in lockstep with the President of the teachers’ union. At a recent meeting, he exhibited great disdain for a parent who spoke with heartfelt concern for the children in this district. The parent outlined the outrageous failure and truancy in Wausau, the harmful effects of substance abuse, unchecked child abuse, depression, self harm and suicide rates of children who have been sentenced to this damaging and disastrous virtual learning environment. At that same meeting, Board member Ka Lo interrupted and shouted down a parent during his allotted public comment time.
This appalling behavior is unbecoming of those in elected office. And they seemingly have no empathy whatsoever for the children in this district.
Elections do indeed have consequences. Wausau, it’s time to clean house with the local school board and end this madness.
