Stevens Point Police
Stevens Point, WI (WSAU) — The Stevens Point Police Department arrested a 55 year old man early this morning after a standoff in a home in the 700 block of Johns Drive. It came after shots were reported after the home and another man and a woman were able to leave the building earlier.
According to a press release from the Stevens Point PD:
The Stevens Point Police Department initially got called to the 700 block of Johns Drive for a disturbance between two males. The caller stated guns shots were heard prior to the disturbance but no one was injured. The male suspect remained in the residence while a male and female departed. When officers arrived the male suspect refused to come out, barricaded himself in the apartment. Phone contact was eventually made with the suspect who was very agitated, continuing to refuse to come out of the house, making threats for officers to have to shoot him.
Officers continued to have phone conversation, with no success of him surrendering. Stevens Point SWAT team and Portage County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, alternated their officers due to the weather elements. Eventually at 3:16am, officers made entry into the apartment and were able to take the suspect into custody.
The 55 year old male suspect was arrested. A gun was located within the residence. There is no longer a threat to the surrounding residence people are able to return to their homes. We appreciate everyone’s patience in allowing us to not rush this incident so that the resolution was peaceful.
