MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The consumer watchdog Better Business Bureau is reminding residents to treat their COVID-19 vaccination record like sensitive, personal data to protect themselves from scammers.
Some residents have taken pictures of their cards and uploaded them to social media to mark their vaccination dates, but due to the nature of the information on those cards doing so could leave them vulnerable to identity theft.
The cards contain details such as name, date of birth, and vaccination location. All of those details could allow hackers to steal personal data or health records.
The BBB says you are better off not sharing any details about your vaccination status on the internet. But, if you must scratch that social media itch, do so in a safe manner such as by sharing a picture of your “I’m vaccinated” sticker or by taking a selfie at the vaccination station.
