MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Wisconsin on Monday reported the fewest new coronavirus infections since August as disease activity continued its recent downward trend.
The state Department of Health Services said there were 543 new positive tests, or 14.6% of the 3,718 total results reported. The total new confirmed cases was the lowest since Aug. 31, when there were 266.
One more person died of complications of COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
The seven-day average of new cases dropped to 1,029, while the seven-day average of deaths remained constant at 23.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 550,369 confirmed infections, more than 2.5 million negative tests and 6,055 deaths. DHS lists 530,216 people as having recovered from COVID-19.
Vaccinations slowed somewhat over the cold weekend. On Sunday, there were 3,169 shots given, fewer than half the number administered on the previous Sunday. Overall, 767,020 doses of vaccine have been administered, with 165,370 people having completed their two-dose series of vaccinations.
More than a third of Wisconsin senior citizens have received at least one dose.
Hospitalization numbers were expected to be updated later in the afternoon.
