MADISON, WI (WTAQ) — Vaccination numbers in Wisconsin are continuing to rise.
Around 10% of the state has had at least their first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine. State officials announced just under 800,000 have been vaccinated as of Tuesday. More than 174,000 have received their second dose of the vaccine.
“Things are certainly looking up,” said Governor Tony Evers during a Tuesday press briefing. “Last week alone, Wisconsin administered more than 260,000 vaccines.”
Even then, Evers warned that we ‘aren’t out of the woods just yet’ and again encouraged masks and social distancing.
Federal officials have stepped up vaccine distribution slightly. Deputy DHS Secretary Julie Willems Van Dijk says Wisconsin has gotten national attention for the speed and efficiency of it’s COVID-19 distribution.
“Every week we learn, and we get better,” said Willems Van Dijk. “We will continue to do that.”
The state believes that, as of right now, it will meet their March 1st goal date to begin getting teachers vaccinated.
