GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The Republican Assembly Majority Leader says Republicans aren’t going to get into a back-and-forth with Governor Tony Evers over issuing repeat Coronavirus emergency orders and mask mandate extensions.
Last week, Republicans repealed one of the Governor’s orders only for him to re-issue an identical order later in the day. Rep. Jim Steineke says you shouldn’t expect them to do it again.
“We have done our job, we have come in, we have voted, we have shown where we’re at on this,” Steineke said in a sometimes contentious interview with WTAQ’s ‘Regular Joe Show’. “To do it over and over again, I don’t see the necessity of that.”
He says they still believe the Governor is acting against the law, and urged the Supreme Court to act.
“We filed another brief with the Supreme Court after the Governor’s actions last week reiterating the need for them to act quickly,” Steineke told host Joe Giganti. “Because this can’t continue, the back and forth.”
A case in front of the Supreme Court could determine whether or not the Governor has the legal authority to perpetually issue such orders, but it’s been sitting in limbo since November.
