A new study out of Iowa State University recommends the daily consumption of red wine for health benefits. The research was looking at the relationship between certain foods and our cognitive ability as we get older. Participants were chosen between 2006 and 2010 when they took their first questionnaire. They also had to do a follow-up assessment between 2012 – 2013, and once again in 2015 – 2016.
Those who took part in the study were asked about their food and alcohol habits and what they choose to eat and drink on a daily basis.
Here are four of the top facts were found.
- Cheese was the best food to help fight against age-related cognitive issues.
- You can improve your brain function by consuming alcohol daily. The study showed that red wine was the best for you.
- Consuming lamb on a weekly basis can help with longer-term cognitive ability.
- No shocker here, but consuming an excessive amount of salt is bad for you. They said that people who already have Alzheimer’s Disease should stay away from eating a lot of salt to protect against more issues down the road.
Looks like we might have to eat more cheese, drink more wine, and buy some lamb if we want to keep our brains sharp.
