MADISON, WI (WSAU) — For the first time since November 22nd the state of Wisconsin has no COVID-19 related deaths to report in the last 24 hours.
DHS officials reported no deaths on Sunday and just 27 new hospitalizations. Just over 400 new positive tests were reported, with 3,860 negative tests.
Just over 6,280 deaths have been reported statewide. Over 97% of all reported cases of the disease are considered recovered.
The virus was first discovered in Wisconsin on February 5th, 2020 in an individual who had just traveled to China and had exposure to known cases. Since then over a half-million cases have been reported statewide.
Numbers associated with COVID-19 have been trending downward for two weeks as the state’s health systems continue to roll out vaccines.
State DHS officials have said they will continue to track the metrics associated with COVID-19 until vaccines are widely available to residents. Currently, just six percent of residents have received both doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, and some 14% have received at least one dose.
