MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services has added more people to the group that’s currently eligible to begin receiving COVID-19 vaccine regimens.
DHS says education and child care staff, people enrolled in Medicaid long-term care programs, some public-facing essential workers, non-frontline essential health care personnel, and facility staff and residents in congregate living settings can begin receiving their shots on March 1st.
That’s in addition to the current groups that are eligible.
DHS says those over the age of 65 will remain a top priority. Those in newly-eligible groups should not expect to get their shots right away.
The federal government recently increased the state’s allotment of vaccines, and that number is expected to go up even more next Monday.
This comes as the state recently announced four new community vaccination sites which will be coming to Marathon, La Crosse, Racine, and Barron/Douglas Counties. A community vaccination site is also operating in Rock County.
Those who are eligible for the vaccine are asked to register with their healthcare provider then wait to be contacted when it’s their turn. You’re also reminded that if you get either the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine; you should get your second shot from the same place you received your first.
