MADISON, WI (WTAQ) — The COVID-19 vaccine will be available to everyone in Wisconsin by May, but there’s still no word on how long the mask mandate will last.
Governor Tony Evers remarks on Thursday were different from those he made earlier in the month that he would, for sure, extend the mask mandate when it reaches its expiration date in early April.
“We’ll take a look at it in in early April and and see how that works,” Evers said during a Thursday press briefing. “If it looks like we need to have another push around masking, we will do that.”
Evers comments come as the state announces over 1.8 million people have had at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, including 660,589 who have completed their full series.
The Governor says we’re close to the “finish line” of the pandemic.
“We don’t want, at some point in time, have to push out that finish line of because we decided to not mitigate when we should,” said Evers.
Wisconsin has had a mask mandate since last July. It’s been extended several times.
