WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — A suspect makes their first court appearance in the case of a missing Marshfield man.
Stephanie Trewyn, a suspect linked to the death of Marshfield man Zachary Vasa was in court Wednesday afternoon for an initial appearance. She is charged with hiding a corpse as a party to a crime and resisting or obstructing an officer as detailed by Wood County Circuit Court Judge Nicholas Brazeau Jr. “That’s a felony punishable by a maximum of $25,000 a fine or 12 and a half years in prison or both,”.
The criminal complaint against Trewyn shines new details on what happened to Vasa before his death. Wood County Sheriff Shawn Becker tells WAOW-TV it’s likely he died of a heroin overdose. “We believe that Mr. Vasa passed away from an overdose. But we don’t have anything scientifically proving that right now. But that’s all based upon statements that have been provided to us,”.
The criminal complaint in the case alleges Trewyn, along with Zach Vasa, gathered at the home of Jacob Immerfall, apparently to use heroin. The complaint then states that Trewyn left for work. Immerfall says he fell asleep, waking up to find Vasa deceased. Immerfall then allegedly placed Vasa’s body in Trewyn’s car, picked her up from work, and they drove around to find a place to hide the body. They reportedly hid it in a wooded area off Fairhaven Avenue in the Town of Rock.
Even with a suspect in custody, Becker says the investigation into Vasa’s death and disappearance continues. “Doesn’t mean the investigations over. We’re always looking for more information but it does bring some at least closure to the family,”.
Trewyn is now being held on a $5,000 cash bond. She will return to court on April 6th for a preliminary hearing and arraignment.
