MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – As new COVID-19 cases Sunday decreased for the second day in a row, the seven-day death average fell for the first time in over a week and nearly 25% of residents have been fully vaccinated.
The Department of Health Services is reporting 569 new cases of COVID-19 Sunday. It is the second straight day of new cases being below 1,000 after Thursday’s 1,046 new cases and Friday’s daily total of 1,092.
With the decrease in new cases over the last two days, the seven-day death average fell Sunday to 775 after Saturday’s previous average of 778.
The DHS is also reporting one new death Sunday as the death average remains at five.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 585,308 confirmed cases, over 2.77 million negative test results, and 6,677 deaths.
COVID-19 recoveries Sunday reached a total of 569,822, or 97.4% of all confirmed cases, while 8,565 cases are active.
As vaccinations continue, nearly 25% of all state residents, or 1,416,082 people have completed their vaccination series. Nearly 70% of residents who are 65 and older have been fully vaccinated.
Wisconsin now reaches 3,526,847 total vaccines administered. Over 390,000 vaccines were administered through the week of April 4.
The DHS says 2,168,966 residents have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose. Just over 78% of residents ages 65 and older have received at least one shot.
