MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Wisconsin reported its fewest new coronavirus cases in two weeks Monday as a recent surge continued to show signs of slowing.
The state Department of Health Services said 373 people tested positive, or 12.3% of the 3,042 total. It was the fewest since 307 new cases were identified on April 5. The seven-day average of new cases went down for the fifth day in a row, standing at 731 as of Monday.
One person died of COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus, pushing the seven-day average of deaths down to four.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 590,831 total cases and 6,710 deaths. DHS listed 575,027 people as having recovered from COVID-19 as of Monday.
The rate of vaccinations showed signs of slowing in the past week. The seven-day average number of vaccine doses administered in Wisconsin was 46,687 on Sunday, down from 63,159 a week earlier, and before federal regulators paused the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to investigate reports of rare blood clots.
As of Monday, 3,888,870 total vaccine doses had been administered in the state. A total of 2,341,100 people (40.2% of the state’s population) had received at least one dose and 1,614,276 (27.7%) had completed their vaccination series.
