STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Starting this weekend, residents in Stevens Point can park on the street overnight without any fee.
Saturday April 24th is the day new parking rules are going into effect in Stevens Point for overnight parking. Parking on the street overnight will become free with alternate side street parking from 2:30 to 6:00 a.m.
Stevens Point Police Administrative Lieutenant Dana Williams explains how alternate side parking can be figured out by residents. “Say I want to park my vehicle on the street overnight tonight. And 2:30 a.m. tomorrow morning is on the 22nd. That is an even number so therefore I would park on the side of the road that would have an even numbered address,”.
The new calendar alternate side street parking will effect most streets in Stevens Point except for the Downtown Business District. The District encompasses most of the City lots situated on Main St., Clark St., Water St., and Centerpoint Dr. and will not be open for any street parking.
Three City lots have been designated for overnight parking in the Downtown Business District. Parking in those lots will require a $3 permit that can be purchased at kiosks or with the phone app Passport by using Zone #1504. Williams says the lots being used for overnight parking are, “Lot number 7. That is located off of 3rd St. on the corner of 3rd and Water.
“Lot number 12 which would be right by the public library. And Lot number 16 which is behind Cobblestone Hotel or the Great Lakes Higher Education building,”.
Williams also mentions that any resident who needs to park a non-vehicle on the street overnight like an RV or a boat needs to get prior authorization from the Police Department.
The new overnight parking rules also don’t supersede more restrictive parking regulations like “no parking” zones or fire hydrant parking restrictions. Some leeway will be given regarding the new parking rules in the first few days of implementation on Saturday.
