GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) — Brown County Sheriff’s officials say two people were killed and a third was seriously wounded after a shooting incident Saturday evening at the main Oneida Nation Casino in the Green Bay area.
Officers say it started at around 7:30 Saturday evening when a man opened fire inside the hotel restaurant at the casino.
The gunman, who has not been identified at this time, was then shot by officers and is said to be one of the two victims. They add that it appears he was looking for a specific employee at the restaurant, and when they weren’t there he opened fire on those that were.
The injured victim was airlifted to Milwaukee. An update on their condition has not been given.
Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul Tweeted an all-clear for the scene just before 10 PM Saturday, also announcing that the Brown County Sheriff’s Office would take the lead in providing information about the incident.
Governor Tony Evers released the following statement just before 11 PM on Saturday: “Kathy and I were devastated to hear about the shooting at the Oneida Casino complex tonight. Our hearts, thoughts, and support go out to the Oneida Nation, the Ashwaubenon and Green Bay communities, and all those affected by this tragedy.
“While we are waiting for more information, we hope and pray those who were injured will recover and are grateful for the first responders who quickly responded to the situation.”
The incident closed down all Oneida Nation Casinos Saturday evening. Many of those are expected to re-open Sunday morning, though the main location where the incident took place will remain closed until further notice.
Traffic near the Green Bay International Airport was also disrupted Saturday evening.
