MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Once again the Republican leaders in the state Senate and Assembly are asking Governor Tony Evers for a meeting regarding how $3.2 billion in federal stimulus money will be handled.
A letter signed by Devin LeMahieu, Robin Vos, Mark Born, and Howard Marklein and sent to the Governor’s office requests the meeting as soon as possible ”so that we may dedicate precious state resources to the priorities of all Wisconsinites.
“As we have said, we need to know where the federal funds are going so that we can direct state funds where we need them,” the letter adds. You can read the full text of the document here.
The quartet adds that they are willing to meet with Evers at the Capitol at any time “with reasonable notice,” adding that the information on how the federal monies will be spent is vital to the ongoing two-year budgeting process.

Evers recently vetoed a package of bills that would have allowed the Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee in on the federal money. The Governor also rejected many of the GOP’s plans for the funds, including $1 billion in property tax refunds for residents, saying that method would not have given relief to those who need it most such as business owners and individuals who rent their buildings or homes.
