MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Three-quarters of Wisconsin senior citizens are fully vaccinated as overall coronavirus activity in the state remained steady on Monday.
The state Department of Health Services reported 349 new confirmed cases, or 12.3% of the 2,843 people tested. The seven-day average of new cases fell to 646, a difference of just three from Sunday’s level.
No new deaths were reported on Monday, keeping the seven-day average at 12.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 599,576 total cases and 6,839 deaths. DHS lists 583,871 people as having recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus.
As vaccination efforts continue, 81% of people 65 and older have received at least one shot, and 75.4% have completed their vaccination course. Among all people in the state, 2,527,645 (43.4%) have received at least one shot, and 2,009,464 (34.5%) have completed their vaccinations. A total of 4,479,776 doses have been administered in Wisconsin.
Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 patients in Wisconsin intensive care units fell below 100. The Wisconsin Hospital Association reported 98 in ICUs, down four from Sunday and 23 from a week earlier. In total, there were 315 COVID-19 patients, flat from Sunday and 48 fewer than a week earlier.
Northeast region hospitals reported 26 COVID-19 patients, up one in a day but down three over a week. Seven of those were in ICUs, down one over both a day and a week. In the Fox Vally region, there were 13 COVID-19 patients, down seven in a day and half the number from a week earlier. Five of those were in ICUs, up one in a day and two over a week.
