Matthew Wolff will not participate in the 2021 PGA Championship next week.
No reason was given by Wolff or the PGA for his decision to withdraw from the major. The 22-year-old pro tied for fourth at the 2020 PGA Championship.
Wolff also led the U.S. Open after 54 holes as a rookie in 2020 before Bryson DeChambeau overtook him for the win. Still, Wolff’s three-round total score of 205 established a record for the event at Winged Foot.
Wolff is currently ranked 27th in the world and will be replaced in the field at Kiawah Island, S.C., by Tom Hoge, who is currently ranked No. 108.
Disqualified from the Masters last month for signing an incorrect scorecard, Wolff has not finished any event this season in the top 20.
