MERRILL, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — No injuries or hazards have been reported in connection with a train derailment in Merrill on Wednesday.
The Merrill Police Department says crews remain on the scene near the Center Ave viaduct where a rail car and two locomotives toppled in the morning. No one was injured in the incident and no fluids leaked at the scene.
Police officers are still asking the public to avoid the area, both on foot and in vehicles, while crews work. WAOW TV reports that roads in the area remain open but there are traffic control measures in place. There’s also no access to the Agra Pavillion parking lot at this time.
There’s still no word on what caused the situation. Canadian National Railway did release a statement Wednesday evening thanking first responders for their quick action and apologizing for any inconvenience the incident may have caused.
