The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) sent a stop-sale order to eBay due to 170 unregistered or misbranded pesticide products being sold on their website. The action amends a 2020 order to include the additional products. EPA’s Larry Starfield said, “Unregistered pesticides can pose a serious hazard to human health and the environment.” The Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act makes it illegal to distribute or sell a pesticide that isn’t registered with the EPA or a pesticide with false labeling.
Among the pesticide products subject to the amended order is a very dangerous anticoagulant poison and DDVP, an insecticide with multiple restrictions and some prohibited uses in the U.S. because of how bad it can be for human health. Also included in the amended order are pesticides that eBay didn’t stop selling after the order went into effect on June 10th, 2020, like Virus Shut Out, a purported spatial disinfection card that claims to protect the wearer from the novel coronavirus.
