WAUKESHA, WI (WSAU) One of the suspects in the Slender Man stabbing case from 2014 will be released from a state psychiatric facility this fall.
A judge ordered Anissa Weier, 19, to be released in September. Judge Michael Bohren said she is no longer a threat.
Weier wrote a letter to the judge saying she is sorry, that she wants to be a productive member of society, and will continue with treatment and therapy as an out-patient.
Weier was in court in Waukesha County on Thursday. The judge ordered the Winnebago Mental Health Institute to prepare a release plan in the next 60 days.
Weier and Morgan Geyer were in middle school when they lured a classmate into the woods and stabbed her 19 times seven years ago. The victim was left for dead. She was able to crawl to a nearby road to get help, and survived the ordeal.
Weier and Geyer said the stabbing was to pay homage to the fictional character Slender Man. They intended to walk to the Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest, more than 300 miles away, where they believed Slender Man lived.
Weier reached a plea deal where she agreed to confinement in a mental health facility instead of going to trial. Geyer did not, and was sentenced to 40 years confinement. She is appealing, claiming the sentence is overly harsh, and that her case should have been referred to juvenile, not adult, court.
