WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Marathon County residents are encouraged to provide input on what the county’s share of the American Rescue Plan funding should be used for over the next three years.
County leaders will hold three listening sessions in early August while also taking online comments on what the money could be used for, as long as the project ideas fit into the allowable criteria.
According to the American Rescue Plan guidelines, which were passed last spring, the $26.3 million that Marathon County has received can be used for certain water, sewer, or broadband internet infrastructure projects. It could also be used to replace certain revenues lost due to public health emergencies that stemmed from the pandemic or to cover other expenses brought on by the pandemic.
It could also be used for premium pay for essential workers.
The money can’t be deposited into a pension fund and must be spent by the end of 2024. If it’s used on a project, the work must be completed by the end of 2026.
Sessions will be held on the following dates:
- Tuesday, August 3 at 5:30 pm – Edgar High School, Auditorium
- Tuesday, August 10 at 5:30 pm – Marathon County Courthouse, Assembly Room
- Tuesday, August 17 at 5:30 pm – Hatley Public Library, Community Room
Those who can’t attend any of the sessions but would still like to provide their comments can do so by submitting them on the county’s website beginning Wednesday, July 28th.
