KENOSHA, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — The man left paralyzed after he was shot by a Kenosha police officer says he expects to be able to walk soon. Jacob Blake, Junior was shot seven times last year.
He tells C-N-N he was able to take a few steps during his son’s birthday party last week.
Blake compared the feeling to sliding his legs through a wood chipper.
He says even though he was, in his words, “so geeked” by the accomplishment following months of physical rehab, he won’t feel he’s survived until changes are made that lead to less gun violence.
Blake was shot after a dispute with a woman over their shared kids. Kenosha Police Officer Rusten Sheskey opened fire after Blake, who had an arrest warrant for sexual assault against him, was seeing entering a car with those children, and suspected Blake was going for a knife, which was later found in the front seat. Sheskey was cleared of wrongdoing.
