MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — After a brief decline earlier this week, Wisconsin’s seven-day average of new coronavirus infections increased again as of the state’s latest update.
The Department of Health Services reported Wednesday a seven-day average of 1,699 cases, the highest since Jan. 20. There were 1,968 reported on Tuesday. Test positivity averaged 7.7% over the most recent seven-day period.
Meanwhile, a second Northeast Wisconsin county dropped into a lesser category on the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s transmission map. Menominee and Florence counties were listed as having “moderate” virus transmission, with the rest of the state in the “high” or “substantial” category.
The rolling average of deaths remained at eight, with eight new deaths reported on Tuesday caused by COVID-19.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 663,132 cases and 7,627 deaths.
Vaccinations increased to 54.8% of the population (3,189,538 people) having received at least one dose and 51.5% (2,999,364 people) having completed their vaccine series.
As the year began for most public school students on Wednesday, a total of 197,892 children ages 12-17 had received at least one dose, and 169,867 had completed their vaccine series.
