FORT MCCOY, WI (WSAU) — Officials at Fort McCoy say they are distributing COVID-19 vaccine to refugees that are being held at the facility near Tomah.
Exact numbers haven’t been given, but officials say they are seeing between 300 and 500 arrivals each day, and many are taking the vaccine.
Late last week officials said thy have around 8,000 refugees staying at the base, with the capacity to house as many as 13,000 in the coming days.
All refugees are receiving transportation, temporary housing, and medical screening. The State Department and Homeland Security estimate that 50,000 refugees are being held at all locations nationwide.
