DETROIT, Mich (WSAU) — After pounding Cleveland pitching over the weekend the Milwaukee Brewers offense was shut down by the Detroit Tigers in a 1-0, 11-inning loss on Tuesday night.
The teams waited out a 1-hour, 49 minute rain delay before the Tigers won it on a Derek Hill double off Hunter Strickland in the 11th.
Both teams had chances earlier including the Tigers loading the bases with one out against Josh Hader in the 9th. Hader got out of the jam but threw 32 pitches to do it.
The Brewers loaded the bases in the 11th with one out but Christian Yelich grounded into a double play on a 3-0 pitch.
The Brewers were 1-0 with men in scoring position and only managed four singles in the game. Detroit only had three hits in the game.
Freddy Peralta pitched six innings of shutout baseball with 9 Ks. Former Brewer Wily Peralta started for Detroit and matched that with six scoreless innings of his own.
Milwaukee’s magic number to clinch the division remains at five. The two teams play again this afternoon…pregame show at 11:35 on WSAU.
