MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Wisconsin saw its most single-day new COVID-19 cases since January in its most recent report.
The state Department of Health Services says there were 3,426 new cases reported on Tuesday, the most since Jan. 7. The seven-day average moved to 1,864, its highest level since Jan. 18. Test positivity fell, however, to an average of 7% for the most recent seven-day period.
There were 20 new deaths reported on Tuesday for a seven-day average of 16.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 687,110 confirmed cases and 7,791 deaths.
DHS also released an update on outcomes for vaccinated versus unvaccinated people in August. For vaccinated people, 360.7 people per 100,000 tested positive, 11.5 had to be hospitalized and 1.1 died. For the same time period, 1,413.7 unvaccinated people per 100,000 tested positive, 98.5 had to go to the hospital and 11.7 died. The chart does not specify how many people had the disease in the past and recovered before becoming infected again.
As of Wednesday, 55.9% of the state’s population (3,252,870 people) had received at least one dose of vaccine and 52.6% (3,060,694) had completed their vaccine series.
