MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A former teacher at Madison East will serve federal prison time for secretly filming female students in their hotel room while on a school trip.
David Kruchten was handed a 12-year sentence followed by another two decades of extended supervision for rigging the students’ Twin Cities hotel room with hidden cameras and a second count of producing child porn across state lines.
Kruchten had previously pled guilty to the counts. In handing down the sentence, a judge noted that the act showed “sustained and masterful manipulation,” of his position as a teacher.
He admitted to hiding the cameras in air fresheners and smoke detectors and said his goal was to capture images of them in various stages of undress but said his intentions were not sexual but instead “scientific.”
The students were on a trip to the Cities for a business conference.
