MADISON, Wi (WSAU) — A Wausau police lieutenant was named 2021 “First Responder Of The Year” by the state assembly .
Melinda Pauls was presented the award at a public ceremony held in conjuction with First Responders Appreciation Month.
Pauls fills various roles in the Wausau Police Department. She coordinates training of new police officers and is involved in their hiring as well. She also runs the Crash Investigation Team which investigates traffic crashes. She also runs the Community Resource Unit which deals with drug and street crimes in the city.
Pauls has been with the department for 20 years. She was presented the honor by State Representative Pat Snyder.
