MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) — The Marshfield Rotary Winter Wonderland returns to the Wildwood Zoo tonight with more than one million lights on display.
Volunteer Coordinator Danielle Nystrom says if you’re going, make sure you plan ahead as the display can get crowded on the weekends.
“We have two different main entrances- one in the front off of 17th street and one off the back of the zoo. We also have the drive-through entrance, so people can walk or drive through,” said Nystrom. In addition to the walk-through, drive-through, and motorized light displays there will be live music on selected nights and horse-drawn wagon rights through the displays each weekend.
Musical acts begin on Friday with The Foxfire Affair. That’s also the day the display officially opens to the public at 5 PM. Admission is free but you are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate to local food pantries or a cash donation if you can. Nystrom adds that those donations will stay local.

Preparations for this year’s display began earlier this fall with hundreds of volunteers taking time on Saturdays and Sundays to set up the display for the last five weeks. Nystrom says they also spent a significant amount of time in the last few days to get things ready for tonight’s grand opening.
This is the 16th year for the Winter Wonderland. In previous years the event has generated over 50,000 food items that are distributed to 17 local food pantries in Marshfield and as far away as Mosinee, Greenwood, Thorp, and Phillips.
