WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Eight high school marching bands from Central Wisconsin are joining forces to be in the 2023 Rose Parade in Pasadena, California.
The following schools are all going to be represented: Lakeland Union, Merrill, D.C. Everest, Wausau East, Northland Pines, Three Lakes, Antigo, and Mosinee.
Collectively, the band programs are looking to raise more than $1 million to send its students to play in the parade.
Lakeland Union’s band director, Bill Richter, says getting the opportunity to have Central Wisconsin heavily represented on national television is an opportunity they could not pass up. “People toss around ‘once in a lifetime’ a lot. But this one, we’re marching in the Rose Bowl parade, how many bands can you say do that? I don’t remember any sort of group from northern Wisconsin that has done that,” Richter said.
Richter recommends people support their favorite bands involved so the goal can be achieved; they can do so by contacting their school districts for more information.
