MOUNT PLEASANT, WI (WSAU) — For the first time in two years, Foxconn has hit the hiring and investment mile-markers required for tax credits through the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.
Leaders at the state agency confirmed that the Taiwanese tech giant added 579 eligible jobs and made a $266 million capital investment in facilities in the Badger State, qualifying them for just over two million dollars in job credits and $26.6 million in capital investment credits.
Foxconn has missed those marks over the last two years as the company continues to work through what to build at its Mount Pleasant facility. The manufacturing plant was originally slated to make LCD screens for iPhones and other tech devices, but those plans were later scaled back.
In 2020 Foxconn shifted to manufacturing ventilators and other Personal Protective Equipment such as face coverings at the facility to help in the global fight against COVID-19. Last March they began making servers and other 5G technology gear at the plant.
Reports out of Racine County indicate that Foxconn is the largest taxpayer in the county.
