CANTON, OH (WSAU) — A Packer great is knocking on the door of the game’s best for a third straight year.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced 15 finalists for the Class of 2022 on Thursday, including LeRoy Butler. The long-time DB and Kick Returner played 12 seasons with the Packers from 1990-2001 and played a big role in the team’s Super Bowl XXXI win over New England.
In addition to his prowess on the defensive side of the ball, Butler is also credited with inventing the “Lambeau Leap” in a 1993 game against the Los Angeles Raiders.
Bulter finished his career with 38 interceptions and 889 tackles along with 20.5 QB sacks.
He is the only first-team member of the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 1990s that has not gotten the call to Canton.
The field of finalists also includes Bears DB and kick returner Devin Hester, Vikings, Cheifs, and Bears DE Jared Allen, Jaguars and Texas OL Tony Boselli, Texans WR Andre Johnson, Rams and Jaguars WR Torry Holt, Colts WR Reggie Wayne, and Cowboys DE DeMarcus Ware.
The Hall of Fame Class of 2022 will be announced in Los Angeles on February 12th during the NFL Honors show before Super Bowl LVI.
