Russia’s Daria Kasatkina saved all seven of her break points on Monday while posting a 6-4, 6-0 first-round upset of eighth-seeded American Sofia Kenin at the Sydney Tennis Classic in Australia.
Kasatkina needed just 63 minutes to polish off the upset of Kenin, the 2020 Australian Open champion. Kenin won just eight points in the second set.
Among other matches, fifth-seeded Paula Badosa of Spain continued her rise by beating Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko 7-6 (1), 6-1. No. 4 Anett Kontaveit of Estonia beat China’s Shuai Zhang 6-3, 6-3 and No. 7 Ons Jabeur of Tunisia was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Australia’s Astra Sharma.

American Madison Keys racked up 14 aces while recording a 6-2, 6-4 victory over second-seeded Elina Svitolina of Ukraine in first-round play at Adelaide.
Keys won 28 of 33 first-serve points (84.8 percent) while Svitolina had seven double faults and just three aces. It marks the second straight event in which Svitolina lost in the first round in tune-ups for the upcoming Australian Open.
Sixth-seeded Marketa Vondrousova of Czech Republic outlasted Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. American Alison Riske was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Poland’s Magda Linette while Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk knocked off American Shelby Rogers 6-3, 6-4.
