PHOENIX, AZ (WSAU) The Milwaukee Brewers front office was busy on Tuesday as they avoided salary arbitration with 10 players.
Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff, Eric Lauer, Josh Hader, Brent Suter, Omar Narvaez, Willy Adames, Luis Urias and Hunter Renfroe agreed to deals before the noon deadline.
The only player who did not settle was pitcher Adrian Houser. GM David Stearns said they would exchange numbers with Houser and “go from there”.
All of this financial stuff would usually be done before spring training but with the lock-out everything has been pushed back this spring.
Hader will make $11 million this season, up from $6.675 million last year. Woodruff jumped to $6.8 million and Burnes, after winning the Cy Young Award went up to $6.5 million from $608,000. Suter will mkae $2.7 million, Urias is up to $2.55 million and Lauer will get $2.425 million.
Narvaez, who made the All-Star team last season will getr $5 million which will double his salary. Adames, who was the teams MVP in 2021 will go up to $4.6 million and the newly acquired Renfroe came in at $7.65 million.
Now the question is how many of these players will the Brewers try to sign to lon-term deals. Stearns said they are interested in that for a number of them.
