CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI (WSAU) — The boy suspected of killing Lily Peters of Chippewa Falls was in court on Wednesday, which came with some details surrounding the killing of the ten-year-old girl.
District Attorney Wade Newell told the Judge that the suspect told police he had planned the crime, saying he had beaten her with a stick and strangled her “to the point of death before then sexually assaulting her.”
Initital reports indicate Peters was strangled. An autopsy is being conducted on her body by medical examiners in the Twin Cities, the results of which could take days.
Officers say Peters and the suspect were related, but wouldn’t elaborate any further on how. The two left her aunt’s home together on Sunday, Peters’ body was found on Monday about 12 hours later.
Earlier reports had indicated that Peters knew the suspect.
The 14-year-old, identified only by his initials, is facing charges of first-degree intentional homicide along with sexual assault and sexual assault of a child. The suspect will return to court on May 3rd, and is being held on a $1 million bond, with the state citing the nature of the allegations against him, his statements to law enforcement about his intentions, and concern about the defendant fleeing.
The criminal complaint remains sealed at this time, and it’s unclear when it may be released.
