UPDATED: The Wausau Policing Task Force’s final meeting was postponed on Monday morning. A makeup date has not been announced.
It’s the series finale for the Wausau Policing Task Force this evening when the group will present their final product for consideration by leaders on various city committees.
This comes after members took public comment on their findings and recommendations last week. Once finalized, the task force will be disbanded and it will be up to the City Council, Police and Fire Commission, and other groups to implement any recommended changes.
Many of the recommended changes center on mental health for officers and continuing outreach to the homeless.
The group has been working for two years.
We’ll also be watching for updates on one court case in Portage County. William Gentry, the man accused of carjacking a woman in the Target parking lot and then taking the vehicle all the way to mid-Missouri before police caught up to him, will have a preliminary hearing.
He has yet to enter a plea to charges of armed robbery by use of force and operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent.
